Jolie’s Balloons & Woodland Creature Themed 1st Birthday Party // August 2013
“AE Creative provides a very personal touch to the event and the amount of time spent is apparent in the level of detail. If you and your guests appreciate a party or event with a theme, decoration, or overall display that shows the planner cares about the presentation then you will not be disappointed with Abby’s work. She made our daughter’s first birthday very memorable and we can’t thank her enough for her time and effort in making it so. Just looking back at the photos reminds us of how her work was so instrumental in creating such a great time during an important moment in life. Thank you Abby!!” – Darin (dad)
Jolie is the happiest little tot I have ever known. She loves bubbles, balloons, animals, and is a little girl so pink is naturally a color that she is never in short of. I had the pleasure of planning Jolie’s baby shower {see here} so I was thrilled to get to plan her 1st birthday party as well!
The theme was easy, Balloons & Woodland creatures. I had a fun time coming up with a creative way to tie the theme together for the invitations. I had the idea of a hot air balloon and when I found the woodland creature fabric, it couldn’t have been more perfect! I cut out balloon shaped fabric pieces and sewed them onto the invites. I then cut small burlap squares for the basket and attached them by little strings of bakers twine. They turned out adorable and set the tone for the party!
The party was a summer Saturday afternoon so picnic food was served including shish-kabobs, pasta salad and fruit. We served iced tea, fruit infused water and punch to quench guests thirst on this hot August day. Dessert was lemon or chocolate cupcakes adorned with baby balloons. Jolie had her own personal cake that she could enjoy {and smash!} Party favors for the kids attending were wood berry baskets lined with fabric squares that matched the invite fabric with a helium balloon tied to it {a hot air balloon!} Each kid got their own bottle of bubbles and then got to fill their basket with treats that included “baby balloon” gum balls, marshmallow “cloud” puffs, “little cloud” meringues, popcorn, “balloon” lollipops and gumdrops that all matched the theme and colors.
There were a few tables set up for guests to sit down and eat at. For centerpieces I spray painted jars hot pink and filled them with fresh farmers market flowers. I then added a balloon with a few strands of yarn around it like a hot air balloon. I also spray painted baby food jars yellow and planted baby succulents in them. This was all set on a paper doily with a baby woodland creature sitting nearby. To decorate the detached garage and tie in the space I got fabric and ribbon that matched the colors and hung strips from above the garage door and clothes pinned photos of Jolie with friends and family from the 1st year of her life. I also wrote on my large chalkboard some fun stats about her 1st year. This created a cute backdrop for the party, but was also a place for family and friends to look back on memories.
The day was quite windy so balloons and bubbles were blowing all over the place, and the kids loved it! There was also a badminton net and slip and slide set up for the kids and even some adults! The party was a success and everything turned out wonderful. I hope to have the chance to plan several more years of birthdays for miss Jolie Anne!
