Sophie’s Ocean Themed 12th Birthday Party // September 2013
Sophie is a girl who knows what she wants. Being 12, on the verge of teen, but still a tween, Sophie wanted a sophisticated party to celebrate with her girlfriends. She loves the beach and ocean and had seen an ocean party online and fell in love with the idea. Once she had picked the theme I had just over a week to make invitations and plan all of the details.
Message in a bottle invites were a no-brainer for me. They were simple, unique, and really set the mood for the ocean theme. They were also fun for Sophie to hand deliver them to her friends at school, needless to say, they were a hit! For food, I had brainstormed themed ideas such as tuna melts with clam chowder & oyster crackers, but Sophie wanted good ‘ol pizza! Which also made it easier on Mom not having to cook. For snacks and treats we served Izze drinks, fruit kabobs, chips, popcorn, blue “fish bowl” jello, cookies and cupcakes. I made the star-fish cookies and cupcakes to match the party.
For the activity the girls all made sea salt body scrubs. I provided 4oz jelly jars for the girls to use. I spray painted the lids to match the party colors and glued a party tag to the top. This also served as one of the party favors. The other party favor was candy! I provided treat bags for the girls to fill with salt water taffy, “ocean pearl” gumballs, vanilla star-fish pops that I made, blue rock candy, and blue gummy bears.
The party was a big success and quite a memorable event for Sophie to share with her girlfriends!
