farmers market birthday party

Lucy’s Farmers Market 5th Birthday Party // April 2013

Lucy loves berries! “Mom calls me blueberry-girl” I’ve heard that a few times… So when Lucy’s mom asked me to plan her very special 5th birthday party, I thought of a few ideas, then farmers market just kinda came to me. There can be plenty of berries! Healthy food for the kiddos! And endless possibilities for fun & games! I had such a fun time planning and putting together all the items that fit the theme.

I custom designed her invitations that she mailed to all of her friends. These set the tone and mood for the party. They were fun, colorful, & feminine without being too girly. I made peanut butter & jelly and peanut butter & honey sandwiches that were served in berry baskets along with a cup of strawberries and carrot sticks. Blueberries, apples and clementines were also offered {along with a little treat, a carrot shaped sugar cookie!}

For fun & games, the kiddos played toss the felt strawberries into an apple barrel basket and they also made a Mr. Potato Head completely out of fresh cut veggies – this was a hit! I pre-cut veggies and put them into their own berry basket. I prepped the potatoes by cutting off the bottom so it could stand and put toothpicks into it so they were ready to put on the veggies. Some of the kids even ate their vegetables after they had finished and asked for more! For a party favor, I had the kiddos “shop the market.” I had strawberry shaped sugar cookies, Harbo cherry gummies, orange slices, Harbo raspberry gummies, and Cadbury mini eggs. The kids had to get a basket and read the shopping list for how many of each item they needed. They had a fun time putting together their own favor and really followed the shopping list!

Dessert was mini red velvet cupcakes {Lucy’s request} with a normal size cupcake for the birthday girl. Keeping with the market theme they were topped with fresh raspberries and displayed in ceramic egg crates. It was truly a fun filled day at the “market” and a great celebration for Lucy’s monumental 5th birthday! I hope I get the opportunity to plan the 6th!
